Quick Reference for Production Companies

WE TAKE CARE OF THE DETAILS SO YOU CAN FOCUS ON THE PRODUCTION!

Complete On-set Teaching Services
For almost twenty-five years, On Location Education (OLE) has offered complete on-set teaching services for young performers working in stage, film, and television productions. Our services include complete coordination of schoolwork with students’ home schools and the provision of qualified and experienced on-set teachers. OLE can also provide studio teachers for productions, both in and out of California, when state and union regulations mandate that a California certified teacher/welfare worker is required on set.

National Teacher Database
On Location Education's continually updated registry of teachers throughout the U.S. and Canada means access to quality educators in the vicinity of almost any production location. This can translate into considerable savings in time and expense for production companies.

Touring Teachers
OLE’s registry also includes touring teachers who know the film, television, theatre, and recording industries, and have experience in working with students in these settings. Our teachers have credentials from around the globe, and the skills and energy to create effective learning environments anywhere they go.

Child Work Permits
Obtaining child work permits requires a lot of time and paperwork. On Location Education is a full-service operation that takes the hassle out of completing and filing the forms. We know exactly what you need and when you need it, based on our extensive experience. We offer both consultations and permitting assistance services.

Here is what we can do for you:

  • Contact young performers' families to gather all necessary information and documentation.
  • Prepare a complete packet of all required forms.
  • Complete all required permit or waiver applications, letters of intent, consents and statements.
  • Compile cover letters to government agencies containing detailed information about the minor children’s performances, education, and safety.
  • File all required documents with government agencies or school authorities.

If you are interested in OLE's permitting services, please contact us at 800.800.3378 for more information and cost estimates.

OLE in the Press

“We function as a production company's education department. Companies have an art department, a costume department, and they rely on us for young people's education.” - from Dance Teacher Magazine

In California, only a specially-certified teacher, referred to as a studio teacher, is allowed to work with minors on an entertainment industry set.  A California studio teacher must hold NOT ONLY a California Multiple Subject credential (elementary school) and a Single Subject credential (high school), issued by the California Department of Education, BUT ALSO a Studio Teacher credential issued by the CA Department of Industrial Relations.  This credential denotes a thorough knowledge of CA child labor laws and enables a studio teacher to act on behalf of the CA Department of Industrial Relations.
